The British army is struggling to recruit new members, and it appears the Australian military could be about to face a similar issue.

Tom Elliott believes the debate on how to attract young people to serve their country will only grow, while defence analyst Marcus Hellyer says the percentage of population signing up to armies was dwindling globally.

“This is a problem facing not just Australia but many of our allies,” Mr Hellyer told Tom on 3AW Mornings.

“We are on a kind of trajectory…as a percentage of the population fewer people are interested in serving.”
