Carlton has secured Alex Fasolo as an unrestricted free agent.

The 26-year-old forward has played 101 games across eight seasons at Collingwood.

Blues list manager Steven Silvagni told Sportsday the club wanted a player with experience and goal-kicking power in the forward line.

“Once again he brings a bit of experience,” he said.

“What we do know is he is a goal kicker, we just felt we needed more goal kicking power up in our forward lines, so we are rapt to have Alex on board.”

The club has also today finalised a deal for Crows forward Mitch McGovern to join the Blues.

“He’s 191 cm, similar height to Charlie Curnow, they’re not overly tall they’ve got great leaps and they can really mark the ball, great speed,” he said.

“He’s not your genuine tall, but he plays taller than what his height is.

“We are delighted to have Mitch on board, I think he will really complement our forwards.”

He said Carlton has been a young side, particularly in the past year, averaging 11 players between the age of 18 and 28.

“If you have a look at our list profile, we haven’t got a lot of quality players through that 22-26 year age group,” he said.

“We felt Mitch was one of those players we should really approach.

“When you go through a list rebuild, you go through some growing pains.

“There’s peaks and troughs.”

He also explained the conversation he had with Dylan Shiel, and why didn’t choose the Blues.

“He just felt Essendon was a year or two ahead of Carlton, in terms of where they were at in terms of playing finals,” he said.
