Police have revealed the crash in Werribee overnight which has left a women fighting for her life was “completely avoidable” but denied hooning as a cause.

Sergeant Brendan Eames-Meyer from the Major Collision Investigation Unit, says speed is a a major factor in their investigation.

“Given the damage to the vehicle, and the destruction to the power pole and tree, we’re definitely looking at speed,” he told Tony Jones.

A woman aged in her 20s was critically injured after a car crashed into a power pole and tree on Synnot Street just before 2.30am.

The male driver of the vehicle, also aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Synott Street is closed to traffic between Bridge and Cherry streets.
