Wesley College has sent an email to all parents and past students today notifying them that they are going to VCAT to seek an exemption from the Equal Opportunity Act.

The school wants to be able to advertise and award positions and scholarships to students of a certain gender.

Word on the Street caller Eddie told Tom Elliott he is a parent at the school, and received an email from the principal today.

“The gender identity bit, there’s a lot of parents that are concerned,” he said.

“I’ve got no issue with it.”

The college has since released a statement to clarify, saying the exemption is being sought to ensure a balanced ratio of boys and girls.
