Wet, freezing and windy: Weather warning for Melbourne and much of Victoria

There’s a severe weather warning in place for the whole state except the Mallee after an already wet morning.

About 16mm has fallen in Melbourne’s CBD the past 24 hours, with as much as 57mm in surrounding suburbs after a downpour about 4am this morning.

HEAVIEST FALLS

  • Oakleigh South: 57mm
  • Blackburn: 53mm
  • Burwood: 47mm

Blackburn station has been closed due to flooding, with the heavy rain expected to cause more issues for commuters this morning.

And there’s plenty more wild weather to come, along with a cold snap.

Melbourne is expecting a top of just 14 degrees and, like much of the state, has been warned to expected damaging winds of up to 70km/h and hail.

The SES is warning residents to secure loose items, move vehicles under cover away from trees and to take care on the roads.
