What Coles and Woolworths are doing to combat concerning spike in shoplifting
Major supermarkets in Coles and Woolworths are introducing new “smart-gates” aiming to crack down on a concerning spike in shoplifting.
Vice President and Managing Director at Checkpoint Systems, Mark Gentle, said the amount stolen from shops runs into the “millions and millions of dollars”, and pointed out some alarming data to come out of Europe in particular.
“We’re seeing levels of theft across the country now at levels we haven’t seen since the GFC (global financial crisis),” Mr Gentle told Neil Mitchell.
