Flood-affected Victorians are being urged to “take photos of everything” if they intend to submit an insurance claim.

More than 4000 claims have already been submitted and CEO of the Insurance Council of Australia, Andrew Hall, says he expects “thousands” more in coming days.

“I think people are only just starting to access properties,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Mr Hall urged those impacted to photograph the damage before they remove items from their homes.

“If you start to strip out — which is important to do to stop any further mould or damage in the home — take photos of everything,” he said.

“All of that is evidence and helps when you’re making your claim.”
