Margaret Court has revealed she thought “life wasn’t worth living” as she struggled with the challenges of her retirement from tennis in the late 1970s.

Australia’s most decorated tennis player joined Neil Mitchell’s What Makes You Tick segment on Tuesday.

She spoke about her at times tough upbringing in Albury, her success on the tennis court, and post-career struggles.

Court told Neil Mitchell she battled depression in the late ’70s.

“I didn’t know how to get out of it,” she said.

“I was on medication and finished up having a heart problem from it and even got to the place where life wasn’t worth living.”

Court said religion saved her.

She also spoke about the fallout from her controversial commentary about the LGBTQI community in recent years, and why she holds no grudges against her critics.
