Sam Newman says the sudden deaths of his wife Amanda and close friend Shane Warne changed his outlook on life.

The footy great and well-known entertainer joined Neil Mitchell to share his story on What Makes You Tick on Tuesday.

He said he had become “a lot more emotional” as a person following the tragedies.

“It really knocked me around,” Sam Newman said on 3AW.

“I’m no different from anybody else.

“Everyone faces tragedy and grief in their life – mine is just in the public domain.”

He also opened up about the “great joy” of being a grandfather and how his historic tenure on The Footy Show ended in “frustration”.

“For the first time ever I actually disliked going to work,” he said.
