Veteran broadcaster Tony Jones has opened up in a powerful interview, revealing he only met his father a few times.

He told Neil Mitchell his father left his family when he was two, and their paths barely crossed again.

When his father died, he received a call from police with a request. Jones says he feels “a pang of regret” about what he did next.

TJ also revealed he “stepped-in” as a 13-year-old boy when his mother was being physically abused at the hands of a different partner.

“He flattened me,” he told Neil Mitchell on What Makes You Tick?

“Knocked me from one end of the lounge room, to the other.

“I’ve still got a fat lip … that was pretty awful.”
