What needs to be done to fix the build up of ‘unclean’ cars in the Port of Melbourne
Yesterday it was reported up to 10,000 vehicles were stuck on ships in the Port of Melbourne due to biosecurity checks, which has caused much stress for those waiting for cars and the port itself.
Head of Business Development at the Port of Melbourne, Leatrice Treharne, believes the build up of cars is not with staff shortages but rather the cleaning of cars offshore before being loaded onto ships.

“The number one issue is that the vehicles are unclean,” Ms Treharne told Neil Mitchell.
“It’s a matter of undertaking any cleaning at all done offshore before loading your vehicle, and ensuring that from the manufacturing site that it is being parked in areas that do not have vegetation.”
“We would expect that the delay will still continue for at least another six to eight weeks.”
