What stood out to Neil Mitchell about the leadership debate
Neil Mitchell says the issue of China’s increasing influence in the Indo-Pacific should be “above politics” and it wasn’t in last night’s leadership debate.
The 3AW Mornings host says the lack of unity on the threat posed by China was “the most important” point to emerge from the televised debate between Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese.
“We’ve got, unfolding on our doorstep, the biggest threat to Australian security since World War II,” he said.
“We’re now told the Chinese government could have aircraft and soldiers based on the Solomon Islands within four weeks. This is a country closer to Cairns then Melbourne is to Cairns!
“This should be simple. Labor and Liberals should be standing together on this.
“This should be above politics — it wasn’t last night.”
