A new report by demography unit .id Consulting has forecast a big influx in migration which will take Victoria’s population to nine million by 2046.

The growth will be mainly through overseas migration, with a demographer predicting suburbs such as Deer Park, Caroline Springs, Bacchus Marsh and Melton to be the main hotspots for new migrants to live in the future.

“Basically that western arm of Melbourne is going to continue out and link up into Melton and effectively thicken,” Bernard Salt, Managing Director of the Demographics Group, told Tom Elliott.
