What the state opposition is focusing on as new year begins
State opposition leader John Pesutto says the Liberal party remains firmly focused on providing a roadmap to deal with Victoria’s population boom.
Melbourne is tipped to become Australia’s biggest city by 2030, while Victoria is tipped to be home to over 10 million people by 2031.
Mr Pesutto says as the new year begins, the state faces “huge challenges” to deal with population growth which he believed the current Labor government isn’t dealing with adequately.

“Victoria is taking nearly 30 per cent of Australia’s population growth,” he said on 3AW Drive.
“We’ve got huge challenges – we have that population growth but we don’t have a vision under this government.”
He also said there needs to be “urgent” decisions made on the CBD safe injecting room and a rail link to Melbourne Airport, while responding to talk around a potential challenge to his leadership of the opposition.
