Action on climate change was undoubtedly a driving factor for many voters in the federal election, with the Greens and climate-focused independents attracting a significant slice of the vote.

So now the pressure is on parliament to deliver meaningful action.

Jono La Nauze, CEO of Environment Victoria, was asked on 3AW Drive what to expect from the Albanese government when it comes to addressing climate change.

“One of the biggest things that Albanese has committed to is really speeding up the transition to a renewable electricity system,” he said.

“He says he wants to get Australia to 82 per cent renewable by 2030 – we are currently sitting at more like 20 per cent.

“That’s a pretty fast-paced of change but, to be honest, the market has been heading there already at that kind of pace.

“He’s got the wind in his sails, on that front.”
