Tom Elliott has weighed in on the ban on the sale of machetes in Victoria, which came into effect at midday yesterday.

The 3AW Mornings host said it already seems that machetes are like vapes, “officially illegal but you can still get them everywhere”.

And there’s a claim from Consumer Affairs Minister Nick Staikos which he found “extraordinary”.

Press PLAY to hear his latest comments on the machete sale ban (including the email he received from the state government after his editorial)

“I have a particular dislike for laws that aren’t actually prosecuted.

“If anybody thinks we’re going to see a reduction in machete crimes, like fights in shopping centres, I doubt that’s going to happen.”

CEO of the Les Twentyman Foundation, Paul Burke, then had his say on the machete ban later in the show.

The foundation focuses on helping at-risk youth, and legendary youth worker Twentyman when he was alive was very vocal on knife crime.

“I’m in the business of being very optimistic given that we work with young people, but time will tell,” Mr Burke told Tom Elliott.

“It would’ve been nice to be consulted (by the state government), we do have a body of knowledge.”
