Human remains were yesterday found in bushland near Dargo, while police were searching for missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

Police say the process to identify the remains may take some time.

Greg Lynn, a 55-year-old pilot, has been charged with two counts of murder over the disappearance of the campers in the Victorian High Country in March 2020.

Police believe Mr Lynn and the two campers were not known to each other.

“The theory the police have said publicly is that it was a chance meeting, and a confrontation that got out of hand,” John ‘Sly’ Silvester told Ross and Russel.

“That speculation would be that there was an assault and a cover up.”

Sly says the discovery of human remains yesterday indicates police received “gilt-edged information” on where to look.

“On this occasion they arrived with an excavator, with forensic experts, within hours. So they weren’t just told a location, they were told a spot.”
