When to watch Melbourne’s Geminid meteor shower

Melbourne could be lit up by a spectacular meteor shower tonight.

The Geminid meteor shower is an annual event but this year coincides with a nearly moonless sky.

But this is one for dedicated stargazers.

‘The best show will in fact be some time between midnight and dawn,’ Perry Vlahos, vice president of the Astronomical Society of Victoria, told Justin Smith and Kate Stevenson on 3AW Breakfast.

The northern suburbs are likely to be the best viewing location.
