‘Where does it end?’: Port Melbourne sledgehammer attack sparks outrage over bail laws
Following a daylight attack in Port Melbourne involving a car theft and a sledgehammer assault, concerns have been raised regarding the suspects being granted bail, despite already having been on bail at the time of the incident.
Speaking with Tom Elliott, criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro argued that the current application of bail laws suggests such behaviour is being “tolerated” and releasing repeat offenders sends a dangerous message to the community and potential criminals.

“What do you do to not get bail is the question … I think the bail laws now are a joke,” Munro said on 3AW Mornings.
