Where the biggest new cemetery in Victoria in 100 years will be built

Tony Moclair

A new 128-hectare cemetery in Harkness on the outskirts of Melton has been earmarked for development.

It will be the biggest new cemetery in Victoria in 100 years, and will also be biodiverse with grassland, walkways and spaces for picnics.

Press PLAY to hear the details about the new cemetery

CEO at The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, Andrew Erikson, believes the cemetery can be a place for passive recreation but also a respectful place as it’s still a cemetery.

“The sheer scale allows us to have that co-existence of both of those activities,” Mr Erikson told Dee Dee.
