Who wouldn’t want to work here!? Well, actually…
The head chef at an internationally renowned Victorian winery says the shortage of hospitality workers has become “dire.”
TarraWarra Estate in the Yarra Valley began advertising a sous chef job in January.
They didn’t receive a single application in six months. Not one.
“We just want to fill the position,” head chef Troy Spencer told Neil Mitchell.
He said all positions, whether in the kitchen or serving, were hard to fill.
“It’s dire everywhere,” Mr Spencer explained.
They’ve since taken their search overseas, with the winery now trying to move a sous chef from Singapore.
“But the government is making it twice as hard to get that person here,” Mr Spencer said.
“We want to employ local people.”
