Former Ambassador to the United States, Arthur Sinodinos, has admitted he was “surprised” to learn about the Kevin Rudd news today.

The former prime minister will step down as Australia’s ambassador to the US at the end of March, a year earlier than expected.

“In the end, I don’t think that was a factor in Kevin (Rudd) going,” Mr Sinodinos said about Rudd’s awkward exchange with US President Donald Trump in October last year.
