Why a former principal is urging schools to move away from combined classrooms

Tony Moclair

A former principal has detailed his experience as a principal at a school with combined classrooms in an open-plan classroom as a failure.

Former principal and founder and chief executive officer of Real Schools, Adam Voigt, says he was given the opportunity to be the first principal at a new school which offered combined classrooms.

“I thought, ‘Yeah, there’s an opportunity to see if this could work,'” he told Tony Moclair.

He also says schools should return to single classrooms.

“What I don’t think we want to do is go back to a kind of authoritarian mode of teaching,” he said.
