Why a retired teacher glued himself to a Picasso yesterday

A retired teacher and grandfather of five who was one of two protesters who glued themselves to a Picasso at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) yesterday, says he’s “absolutely” do it again.

Extinction Rebellion protester Tony Gleeson says the decision to glue his hand to the $300 million painting “wasn’t taken lightly”.

“We’ve had media from all over the world in response, so yeah, I guess it on all accounts would have to be considered a success,” Mr Gleeson told Neil Mitchell.

Mr Gleeson says he “expects to be” charged, but he doesn’t regret his actions.

“We accept responsibility for what we did … we will do what it takes, non-violently, to get where we need to be.”
