Why an angry parent has been left ‘baffled’ by Little Athletics Victoria
An angry parent has voiced his concerns with Little Athletics Victoria, as the track and field championships for eight to 17-year-olds will go ahead as planned despite the intense heat forecasted for the weekend.
He referenced Victorian Racing Club and their decision to bring forward racing on the weekend, and has called on Little Athletics Victoria to “make a decision” early tomorrow on whether to go ahead.
“It just seems like more foresight and concern is being shown for a three-year-old horse than it is for an eight-year-old child, which I think for a lot of parents will be baffling,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

Sport and exercise physician and former patron of Little Athletics Victoria, Dr Peter Larkins, then weighed in on the situation.
“I think we’ve come a long way with knowing how to prevent heat stress and heat exhaustion,” Dr Larkins said.
