Andrew Bogut admits he has a bittersweet feeling about an NBA team heading to Melbourne for a series of exhibition matches later this year.

Fresh off the news that the MCG will host Australia’s first-ever regular-season NFL game in 2026, it’s been revealed Rod Laver Arena will play host to multiple matches involving a NBA team playing against a local NBL franchise.

The basketball great told Tony Moclair he was thrilled to see the matches, but wonders whether the state can afford it amid crippling debt.

“It’s bitter,” he said on 3AW Afternoons.

“Victoria’s debt keeps climbing and they’ve just bid for another sporting event.”
