Why animal welfare groups have renewed calls to ban duck hunting
Animal welfare and conservation groups have renewed calls to ban duck hunting after a survey found a decline in abundance for five out of eight game species.
Policy and Advocacy Manager at the RSPCA, Mhairi Roberts, says the survey found the last few years have increased abundance, but a drier year this year concerns welfare groups.
“The information shows that we’ve had a drier year, this year, which means breeding has been down by an order of magnitude … that means the abundance is likely to be in decline in future years,” she told Heidi Murphy.
