Neil Mitchell has been regularly contacted in recent weeks about the streets of Moonee Valley heaving with hard rubbish.

The Moonee Valley Leader wrote about the hazardous eyesores piling up on their streets.

It’s believed people from other councils, which don’t have hard rubbish collections, are crossing borders to ditch their old couches, BBQs, TVs and cabinets.

But Moonee Valley mayor Narelle Sharp told Neil Mitchell locals aren’t blameless.

“What we’re seeing is that a lot of the rubbish that is being dumped can be recycled and can even be taken to our transfer station free of charge,” she said.

“Unfortunately it appears people are taking the easy way out.

“There’s a massive increase across the board, and it’s phenomenal what we’re seeing.”
