Why Australia could follow United States lead as TikTok ban looks imminent
The United States could soon ban TikTok over security concerns regarding the app’s Chinese owners with Australia potentially following suit.
Senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s international cyber policy centre, Tom Uren, says TikTok might be forced to divest from their owners.
“It forces ByteDance, which is TikTok’s owner to make a decision, ‘We either sell, or we effectively get banned’,” he told Ross and Russel.

He says the security concern posed by the app are no different to any other app.
“What makes TikTok different, is that they’re very good at mobilising people,” he said.
