Why Australians care more about US presidential debate than Australian politics

Shane McInnes is convinced Australian are more engaged with the build up to November’s US presidential election compared to local politics.

US president Joe Biden and Republican challenger Donald Trump went head-to-head in a debate for the first time in four years on Friday, marking a significant moment in the election build up.

The 3AW host believes Aussies care more about what’s happening in America than in Australia.

“That’s not to say we don’t care about policy and legislation in our backyard,” he said on 3AW Afternoons.

“But as a media spectacle and following a story, I’m almost certain Aussies will read and watch more about the US presidential election than a federal election here.”
