Even cooler and wetter could be on the way as a result of La Niña redeveloping, according to Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe.

Despite Australia currently being in a El Niño weather pattern, Victoria has so far endured a mild summer.

But even milder conditions could develop with a greater than 50 per cent possibility of La Niña returning later this year.

“There’s a 65 per cent chance that La Niña develop in the second half of this year,” Mr Sharpe told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.

“El Niño is still occurring now, but we have other climate drivers that are affecting our weather and they’ve been a little bit more dominant this summer than El Niño has been.”
