Why fake COVID-19 vaccination passports will be an ‘unfortunate’ reality in Australia

A cryptographer says it’s highly likely fake COVID-19 vaccination passports in Australia will be developed.

And, unfortunately, she said it would likely be quite easy to do.

Dr Vanessa Teague, Cryptographer from the Australian National University, told Tom Elliott the Australian passport wasn’t overly hard to replicate.

She said Europe had developed a more secure alternative.

“They have a digital signature, readable in a QR code,” she explained.

“We could have copy and pasted it.”

Creating or using a fake vaccination passport is illegal.
