Why it shouldn’t be seen as ‘bad manners’ to talk about what you earn
It was once a “taboo” subject to talk about, but people are increasingly discussing their wages with friends and colleagues to find out if they’re being paid enough by their employer.
Tom Elliott admits it was always a topic he’d been told to avoid, but listed a handful of examples of people he knew who’d landed pay rises after discovering what other people in similar roles earned.
“Transparency is probably good,” Scott Phillips, The Motley Fool’s Chief Investment Officer, said.
“Of course, there would be plenty of bosses out there saying the opposite.”
