Senior Labor polling expert Kos Samaras says changing work habits in Melbourne should mean the government looks past the $34.5 billion Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) project.

Work on the SRL has already begun, despite concerns being raised about the cost of the major infrastructure plan.

“We don’t know what the travel habits of Melburnians will be in 10 or 20 years time,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“Will they need a train station from (point) A to B? Probably not. We can see how things have changed in six years (when the SRL was announced).”
