Why married couples who last 20 years are happier than when they first wed
A study has found married couples who last 20 years together are happier than when they first wed.
But why?
Anne Hollonds, director of the Australian Institude of Family Studies, told Ross and John a number of factors were at play.
She said the first two decades were often the most stressful and testing times in a relationship due to mortgages, children and career changes.
“Those first 20 years can be pretty tough,” she said.
“Those ups and downs of life can either drive you apart or make the partnership really strong, hence these findings.”
