There are warnings some 550,000 Australians born this decade face a life in poverty if the country does not take a stand when it comes to tackling disadvantage.

Cassandra Winzar, Senior Economist at the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), said Australia still couldn’t agree on an official measure to use.

“We don’t have an official measure, which means we don’t track,” she said on 3AW Drive.

“Unsurprisingly, when you don’t measure something, or track it, it’s hard to make progress on actually changing it.”

She said money was not being effectively used to tackle the issue.
