Roughly 80 per cent of Australians will experience back pain at least once in their life.

Tom Elliott said that figure highlighted just how prevalent in society the issue was.

But why?

Emma Ho, researcher at University of Sydney’s medicine faculty, said the reason it was so common was because there were so many different causes.

“There are a lot of factors that can contribute,” she said.
