Neil Mitchell says he gets the feeling the Chief Health Officer and health department isn’t entirely on board with the government’s rapid easing of COVID-19 restrictions in the coming weeks.

The 3AW Mornings host said it was important Victorians remained vigilant and followed the protocols such as mask wearing and checking into venues, even once restrictions ease.

The Victorian government has long tied itself to the “health advice” when making tough decisions about lockdown.

Neil said the CHO’s lack of appearance at Sunday’s COVID-19 press conference and Daniel Andrews’ response to a question about the health department being “happy” with the significant easing of almost all restrictions once the state hits a 90 per cent fully vaccinated rate was interesting.

“I’m reading a fair bit into this,” he said.
