Victoria’s public drunkenness laws are set to change in a few weeks leaving police concerned they won’t have appropriate powers to respond to drunk individuals.

Shadow minister for police, Brad Battin, says police currently can move drunk individuals to safe areas or arrest them if possible but they won’t be able to when the new laws come in.

“We’ve all been in the position where we’ve had to much to drink, that is when you’re most vulnerable, if you can take them off the street, you make them safe,” he told Tom Elliott.
