Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has lost a “fair bit of bark” since the Voice referendum was defeated, according to Nine National Affairs Editor Andrew Probyn.

The latest Newspoll – released late on Sunday – sees the Coalition leading Labor 37 per cent to 35 per cent on the primary vote, with the latest figures coming after the referendum on October 14 wasn’t successful.

Mr Probyn said cost of living and housing pressures had a significant impact in the latest polling.

“I think there’s absolutely no doubt that since the referendum and the focus (on it), he has lost a fair bit of bark,” he told 3AW Mornings with Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“He did extend himself in trying to push for that yes vote at the same time that cost of living issues were pinching the public and it’s the cost of living that is the big squeeze.

“If they believe that he hasn’t’ focused on the right things, he like any Prime Minister will see the effect of it.”
