Why protesters have gathered outside the 3AW building

Around 350 people wearing NBN jackets have gathered to protest outside the 3AW building. It’s understood protesters are targeting Service Stream, which has offices based in the building.

Protesters have told 3AW police reporter Madelaine Burke they’re NBN independent contractors whose pay has been slashed by Service Stream.

An NBN spokesperson has told 3AW Mornings they’re aware of action being taken by Service Stream subcontractor technicians, and require subcontractors to ensure technicians receive reasonable compensation.

In a statement, a Service Stream company spokesperson says they respect the right for “individuals to raise concerns”.

They also confirmed their rates of pay have not reduced following “acceptance by subcontractors” at the beginning of their Victorian operations.
