Why Shadow Federal Treasurer doesn’t want fuel excise cut

Shadow Federal Treasurer Angus Taylor says Gina Rinheart’s fuel excise ideal would be like putting a “band-aid on a bullet wound”.

Rinehart has recently called for the full excise to be temporarily cut ahead to help families ahead of Christmas.

Mr Taylor told Neil Mitchell that cutting the excise ahead would only represent a short-term solution to inflation.

“(Rinehart’s idea) is like putting a band-air on a bullet wound,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“It’s a short-term gesture when the government is not doing the real work.”
