Why so many young men are taking steroids

More and more young men are taking steroids.

And one expert thinks social media is largely to blame.

Dr Scott Griffiths from the University of Melbourne told Tom Elliott social media presents an unrealistic picture of people, and young people can feel the pressure to match others.

Dr Griffiths says there’s a disproportionately high focus on appearance in younger people.

“We want to target the over-emphasis on how you look as a source of self-esteem,” he said.

Dr Griffiths said there are concerns over the heart health and fertility of steroid users.
