Most of you will have heard of, or lived, this example by now.

For whatever reason, some people living in a house full of COVID-19 cases seem to avoid ever contracting the coronavirus.

Professor Michael Good from the Institute for Glycomics at Griffith University shared his thoughts on 3AW Drive.

“There are some obvious potential reasons and some reasons we don’t really understand yet,” he said.

Professor Good said some of the “obvious” reasons included how much air people inhaled an exhaled, their personal hygiene habits and how much space they kept from other people in the house.

But there are other factors at play.

“When some research has been done on this, it seems to follow the 80-20 rule,” he said.

“It looks like about 80 per cent of transmission is responsible for about 20 per cent of the population infected.

“And the 80 per cent infected are responsible for about 20 per cent of transmission.”
