Why sport needs significant attention in the upcoming budget

Tom Elliott

CEO of the Australian Olympic Committee, Matt Carroll, believes sport needs up to two billion dollars in funding in the upcoming May budget.

Mr Carroll argues there is an “obesity issue” in Australia and the funding would help increase participation and also help fund the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, as well as the 2032 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

“What we’re saying is this is an investment where we can show there’s a return, so it’s not as if we’re just asking for a handout,” Mr Carroll told Neil Mitchell.
