The AFL shouldn’t be worried about the NRL’s much-hyped season-opening clashes in the United States, according to Sam McClure.
A season-opening NRL double header will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and the league has launched an all-out advertising blitz – headlined by Russell Crowe selling the sport to overseas audiences – in an attempt to build up for the event.
In response, the AFL will play a standalone opening round exclusively in Queensland and New South Wales.

“I’m sitting there as an AFL fan looking over my shoulder not scared at all,” he told Wide World of Sports.
