Why the arrival of the Varroa destructor is a ‘real worry’ for Australia
The President of the Victorian Farmers Federation Beekeepers Branch says he’s long worried about the arrival of the Varroa destructor in Australia.
It comes after 3AW Drive was alerted to the detection of the pest in Australia on Friday.
Australia had previously been the only place in the world free of the mite, which is considered the most serious pest for honey bees worldwide.
“It is a worry, definitely,” Peter McDonald told 3AW Drive.
