Scott Pape, author of smash-hit The Barefoot Investor, says there is dire need for financial literacy to be taught in schools.

“Money is kind of like a language,” he told Ross and Russell on 3AW Breakfast.

“If you don’t speak it – if you don’t speak it at home – it’s very hard for kids to actually then learn that language when they turn 18.

“A lot of kids I meet are 16-17 and they say ‘I’m no good with numbers, therefore I’m no good with money’.

“It colours their entire life, and there will be Afterpay and banks, and all the rest of it, and they will prove you right if you don’t think you’re any good with money.”
