Why the huge number of Aussies bearing a grudge should drop it

Almost three-in-four Australians bear a grudge towards a person or a business, a new survey by Trustpilot has found.

The survey found 72 per cent of us harbour some lingering resentment.

But psychologist and social commentator Sabina Read says we shouldn’t.

“It’s often a matter of being stuck in the past, and then our identity becomes attached to ‘I’m the one that’s been wronged’ and a lot of us get some kind of reward or benefit from that so we hold onto it,” she told Ross and Russel.

“If you have genuinely been wronged I think it helps to realise the impact of holding a grudge is often worse for you than it is for the recipient, particularly if it’s a business.

“A big company is not feeling the impact of your despair, and your anger, and your resentment. The person who is feeling it is you.”
