Premier Jacinta Allan has told the Herald Sun that the judiciary is ‘soft on crime’ and that she expects judges to get tougher on offenders.

Jacqui Felgate has criticised the claim, suggesting the Premier is “passing the buck”.

“It is the job of the government to make laws that are strong enough to hold the judiciary to account,” the 3AW Drive host said.

Lecturer in criminology at Macquarie University, Dr Vincent Hurley, told Jacqui Felgate “parliament makes the laws, so if there’s anyone to blame, it’s the government”.
